VILLA FERRI detta CASTEL SER UGO

VILLA FERRI detta CASTEL SER UGO

Villa Ferri, also known as “Ser Ugo's castle” is named after the Ser Ugo family from Casale who owned a large part of those lands. The imposing façade of the mansion is the result of the enlargement of a house -tower, which helped defenses as well as served as a home. The villa still keeps a few parts of the original structure such as a section of the tower integrated in the present construction, the Romanesque style windows on the North side and the sequence of blind arches of the frame; the entrance portal and the French window in the centre with a balcony dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Villa Ferri also keeps a wonderful cycle of astrological frescoes which date back to the 15th century and seem to echo those frescoes in the Palazzo della Ragione in Padua. A legend says that this “ancient Venetian villa”, as they name it in Casalserugo, was connected to another house by a secret tunnel.

The gardens of Villa Ferri or “Castel Ser Ugo” host a venue of cultural events and entertainment in the summer. Nowdays, it hosts the town library.
