Ca' di Mezzo was made by the Bonifica Adige – Bacchiglione Consortium for purifying waste water through constructed wetland.
The constructed wetland, that means “engineered systems that use natural functions of vegetation, soil, and organism to treat different water streams”, it is characterized by a biological treatment in which the plants purify by means of the bacteria that are on the roots.
The Oasis collects the waters of the Altopiano canal and removes about half of the nitrogen, phosphorus and suspended solids before they are entered in the Venice lagoon. It is located in the Municipality of Codevigo. It covers an area of about 30 hectares. The restoration of the environment has allowed the settlement and reproduction of birds, restocking and protection of migratory and sedentary fauna. Here are weaned and come to nest the great egret, the black-winged stilt, the great cormorant, the western marsh harrier, the coot, the common moorhen, the little egret, the mallard, the common kingfisher, the great crested grebe.
