On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 5:30 PM, at the Theological Study Room of the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, the newly published book Giuseppe Tartini. Genius of the Bow. A Critical Biography written by Mirko Schipilliti, with a preface by Andrea Marcon Zecchini Editore, will be presented. Speakers will include: Luciano Bertazzo, director of the Antonian Studies Center; Maria Nevilla Massaro, musicologist; Guido Viverit, musicologist. The Author will be present at the event. Tartini served at the Basilica of Saint Anthony for nearly fifty years as the “first violin and concertmaster”.
The significant volume, with over 500 pages and a preface by Andrea Marcon, one of the leading interpreters of 18th-century music on the international scene, was produced with the support of the Municipality of Piran, the Italian Community of Piran, and the self-managed Community of the Italian nationality of Piran, Slovenia, in collaboration with the Municipality of Padua and the Friends of Music of Padua, the two cities where Tartini was born, lived, and worked. This book is the first comprehensive and in-depth monograph on Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770), a critical biography that fills an editorial gap of at least 80 years since the now dated text by Antonio Capri from 1945.
Through a comparative analysis of sources, documents, and studies conducted thus far, in relation to the historical-cultural context and with new evidence and deductions, this book offers an organic overview of one of the most complex, bold, fascinating, and enigmatic musical personalities of the entire 18th century, retracing a faithful and linear reconstruction of the violinist’s biographical journey and his musical production.
