“THE HEROES OF MEDICINE the first Hospital of Padua, from Vesalius to Morgagni” is a title dedicated to the Museum of Medicine and the ancient hospital of San Francesco Grande, specifically designed for the MusMe of Padua, which aims to explain the importance that the Padua hospital has had and still has in the history of world medicine, in connection with the University and the Botanical Garden. From a funny Dr. Balanzone who rambles with a young medical student of the sixteenth century, we move to the founder of the first Hospital of Padua “San Francesco Grande”, Sibilia De Cetto.

Starting from Franciscan charity, the performance outlines the figure of Sibilla de Cetto (1350-1421) who, together with her husband Baldo de Bonafari, founded the hospital of San Francesco Grande in 1414, which was managed by the College of Jurists of the University of Padua.

Between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, numerous prominent figures in the history of medicine alternate, such as Vesalius and Harvey, during the period when Galileo Galilei teaches in Padua (from 1592 to 1610).

Then, the plague doctor, a funny and historical “speziala” from Padua, and in the eighteenth century Giovanni Battista Morgagni (1682 – 1771), famous for laying the foundations of modern pathological anatomy… up to the unpredictable ending of this journey through medicine and science!
