Formerly occupied by courtrooms, this \u2018cultural salon\u2019 comprises a cloister that is both a historical monument and a modern facility; a large covered piazza intended to host public events, this is dominated to the north by the backdrop provided by the work of Vincenzo Scamozzi. The lowered ground floor houses an Auditorium and foyer. Work on the creation of this space brought to light late medieval paving and other stratified archeological remains dating from the Roman to the Renaissance period. These remains were then transferred to the City Museum, but a small collection is still visible in the foyer. The first floor has eight rooms laid out around the central gallery and the balcony overlooking the cloisters; each room is equipped to house workshops and cultural activities. On the second floor, the City Library is a place of study, research and conservation, which is continually adding to its collection of works on the humanities (with particular focus on local history, art and literature). The Library also has a well-stocked \u2018open shelf\u2019 with material dedicated to contemporary culture and issues relating to current affairs, modern society and education. The \u2018open shelf\u2019 section is fitted out as a study room, whilst in the history section it is also possible to consult rare and valuable historical source materials. Alongside these there is also the Progetto Giovani [Youth Project], which provides a space for ideas and initiatives involving young people. Linked to schools, public institutions and associations active in social assistance and voluntary work, this is a place intended to stimulate artistic expression and mutual engagement between different cultures. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Occupying a total of 12,000 m2 spread over four floors, this cultural centre opened in 2008 after the reconversion of the old Law Courts, which themselves had occupied a former Theatine monastery. Housing the City Library, fully equipped with Internet work-stations, the Centre is also home to the Progetto Giovani and has a caf\u00e9-restaurant, plus spaces that can host exhibitions, festivals and conferences.
