The short overview aims to consider these changes briefly.<\/p>\r\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">The <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Ponte scaricatore<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> (hydraulic equipment) in Voltabarozzo is dated 1919 and is therefore just over one hundred years old. It was designed by Luigi Gasparini. Shortly after (1923) the famous<\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> Rotonda<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> (<\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Aqueduct Tower<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">) was built; in 1929 the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">courthouse<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> was rebuilt following its destruction by a fire. <\/span><span lang=\"it-IT\">The scenic <\/span><strong><span lang=\"it-IT\">Palazzo Esedra<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"it-IT\"> in Citt\u00e0 Giardino dates back to 1921.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">Among the buildings from the 1930s, the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Liviano<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> (architect Gi\u00f2 Ponti, 1937), and the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Concordi<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> cinema (1936) designed by Giulio Brunetta. The same architect also designed the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Biri<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> (Brewery restaurant) in the Stanga area in the 1940s. The same period saw the construction of <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Palazzo Torre<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> in Insurrection (former Spalato) square, 13 floors and a single central staircase.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">The immediate post-war period witnessed new constructions: the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Altino<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\"> cinema designed by Quirino De Giorgio (1946) but especially the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">railway station<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">, designed by Paolo Perilli. We must not forget the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Cassa di Risparmio<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">, in Viennese Secessionist style along Corso del Popolo, while the opposite side was designed by Gi\u00f2 Ponti (1951).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">In the following decade, the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">skyscraper of Porte Contarine<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">, 15 floors, was started in 1959 and finished in 1961 based on a project by Renato Iscra and Gaetano Luciani. The new Law Courts <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">by Gino Valle and Piera Ricci <\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">are more recent (1984-1990).<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">In terms of road network, a special mention goes to the inauguration of the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">Padova-Venezia motorway<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-GB\">: 15th October 1933, 8 metres wide, single lane&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A medieval city like Padova cannot make radical changes to its structure; nonetheless, it underwent a drastic revamp in the twentieth century.
