From <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Castelli in aria <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">(1939), directed by <strong>Augusto Genina<\/strong> and starring <strong>Vittorio De Sica,<\/strong> to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Alle mie Spalle<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">(2020), directed by <strong>Antonio Belluco<\/strong>, there have been <strong>around forty films shot in Padua and the surrounding area<\/strong>. The number bears witness to all that this city has to offer, with a range of beautiful locations and historical monuments that date from over a numbers of centuries and can thus meet all sorts of cinematic needs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Perhaps the most famous film shot in the city was the 1971 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>La Moglie del Prete<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">, directed by <strong>Dino Risi<\/strong> and starring <strong>Sofia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni<\/strong> &#8211; a film which made ample use of the location possibilities offered by <a href=\"\/?p=6268\">Prato della Valle<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Padua-born film directors include: <strong>Carlo Mazzacurati,<\/strong> whose films include <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Notte Italiana<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (1987), <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>La lingua del Santo<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (1999) and <\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>La giusta distanza<\/i><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (2007), his tenth film;<strong> Salvatore Samperi<\/strong>, whose first film <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Grazie zia<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (1968, with<strong> Lisa Gastoni<\/strong> and<strong> Lou Castel,<\/strong> and set in Bresseo) was followed by the likes of <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Casta e pura<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (with <strong>Laura Antonelli<\/strong>). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> Other films set in Padua include <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Antonio guerriero di Dio<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (1995), directed by Antonello Belluco, whose <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Sulle mie Spalle<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> is released in 2020. This new story concerns various decades in the life of two Padua families at the time of St. Leopold, who plays a part in the life \u2018from above\u2019. Nor should one forget the 2013 film <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Sole a catinelle<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">, whose director <strong>Checco Zalone<\/strong> joyfully turned the old city centre upside down during the making of the film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> The sheer number and quality of the films, directors and actors linked with Padua is remarkable for a city that is far from being a metropolis. <strong>Joseph Losey<\/strong>\u2019s 1979 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Don Giovanni<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\">, was shot in the area to the north of Padua; <strong>Carlo Verdone<\/strong>\u2019s 1994 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Perdiamoci di vista<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> and 1995 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Viaggi di Nozze<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> were both set in Padua, as were <strong>Liliana Cavani<\/strong>\u2019s 2002 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Il gioco di Ripley<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> and <strong>Mauro Bolognini<\/strong>\u2019s 1973 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><i>Libera, amore mio<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium\"> (which starred <strong>Claudia Cardinale<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\">Learn more about <a href=\"\/?p=9805\">Padova Film Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People have been shooting films in Padua for more than 80 years.
