Pour tenter de rendre compte, au moins dans les grandes lignes, des multiples aspects d’une figure intellectuelle complexe comme Melchiorre Cesarotti, illustre intellectuel padouan du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, teatrOrtaet, lors de sa visite anim\u00e9e de la villa Cesarotti \u00e0 Selvazzano, a choisi de retracer les lieux les plus embl\u00e9matiques (et malheureusement seulement en partie parvenus jusqu’\u00e0 nous) du parc de la villa que le padouan h\u00e9rita de son fr\u00e8re et qu’il transforma en un refuge r\u00e9confortant durant ses derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, lorsque les obligations de la notori\u00e9t\u00e9 et de la vie sociale devinrent plus pesantes \u00e0 supporter.<\/p>\n

On commence par le \u201cbosquet fun\u00e8bre\u201d o\u00f9 \u00e9taient plac\u00e9es certaines inscriptions \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire des personnages significatifs pour Cesarotti, puis on passe \u00e0 la \u201cgrotte\u201d, un espace intime que Cesarotti voulut d\u00e9cor\u00e9 de rochers, de coquillages et de stalactites o\u00f9 il est question de la question de la traduction, de la valeur civique de la trag\u00e9die et de la th\u00e9orie de la langue.<\/p>\n

Enfin, le \u201cbrolo\u201d, le potager et le verger, un \u00e9l\u00e9ment domestique toujours pr\u00e9sent dans le jardin v\u00e9nitien qui ne fut pas remplac\u00e9, mais au plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 par les th\u00e9ories paysagistes \u00e9mergentes sur le parc \u00e0 l’anglaise, sert de toile de fond aux derni\u00e8res confidences de Cesarotti.<\/p>\n

Avec sa derni\u00e8re compagne, Laura Botton, et l’esprit de son Selvagiano, dieu bifrons tourn\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois vers le pass\u00e9 et l’avenir, il regarde les transformations de sa ch\u00e8re demeure et le r\u00f4le que son enseignement exercera dans la formation des intellectuels qui \u201c ont fait l’Italie \u201d.<\/p>\n
