“New Standards” is the title of a recent CD (2021, Berlin Classics) that S. Höfele and E. Brauss recorded and it could also be the title of the program of our concert, which explores a musical literature that from the years of Enescu (1906), Hindemith (1919 and 1939), B.A. Zimmermann (1945), Ibert (1950), Martinu (1956) reaches up to more recent languages, such as those of Scelsi (1987) and Hosokawa (2015). Simon Höfele, winner of the most important German classical music prize Opus Klassik 2020, has quickly established himself internationally as one of the most successful trumpeters of the young generation. With concerts with the major orchestras and in the most prestigious halls and festivals, Simon has a repertoire ranging from baroque, to modern and contemporary. Pianist Elisabeth Brauss, formerly of BBC New Generation Artists, is praised for the maturity and sophistication of her thoughtful interpretations, her CD “Debut” (2017) for Oehms Classics receiving Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice.
