Friday 22 and Saturday 23 November 2024 at the Teatro ai Colli in Padua, an undisputed masterpiece by the great Venetian author Carlo Goldoni is on the programme, once again revealing itself in all its modernity.
The story is set in Holland, where Monsieur Filiberto, a rich merchant, hosts Monsieur de la Cotterie, a young French soldier wounded in the war, at his home. The young man falls in love with the merchant’s daughter, Giannina, who returns his love. The girl does not want her father to find out about their relationship, for fear of his denial, so she devises a way to trick Filiberto into a ‚curious accident‘ that will allow her to marry her lover.
