For 21 June, International Music Day, and the following 22 June, the Friends of Music of Padua are proposing three concerts at the Church of San Gaetano in Padua, with three names in Baroque music, violinist and musicologist Tommaso Luison, cellist Mattia Cipolli and harpsichordist Roberto Loreggian, called upon to perform one of the most important collections of sonatas for violin and basso continuo in the history of music: The 15 Sonatas of the Mysteries or the Rosary by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber (1644 – 1704). Biber was an Austrian violinist and composer, long-time chapel master in Salzburg, considered by many to be the greatest violin composer of the 17th century. For this exceptional collection, Biber was inspired by the sequence of Mysteries found in the Holy Rosary, according to tradition established in the Middle Ages, describing 15 significant episodes in the lives of Mary and Jesus. These sonatas, of immense and unknown beauty, and unfortunately rarely performed, constitute an absolutely unmissable experience, due to their very high artistic value and the poignancy of their religious and spiritual content.
