Extraordinary string quartet on the stage of the Auditorium Pollini, Tuesday 28 January, at 8.15 pm, in the 68th Concert Season of the Amici della Musica di Padova: the Juilliard Quartet.
This ensemble is an institution and an American legend. Its foundation dates back to 1946, when the Juilliard School in New York decided to have a resident quartet capable of masterfully tackling both classical and modern repertoire. Thus began the glorious history of this ensemble, which in 75 years, with a succession of important achievements and successes, has come down to the present day. The Quartet has won several awards including four Grammy Awards (1966, 1972, 1978 and 1985), for its recordings of Bartók, Schoenberg, Debussy and Ravel, and the Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement (2011), and can boast more than 100 recordings. For more than 50 years, Robert Mann, one of the two founders of the ensemble, was its first violinist. The current line-up includes Areta Zhulla and Ronald Copes (violin), Molly Carr (viola), Astrid Schween (cello), professors in the string and chamber music departments at the Juilliard School.
