Saturday 05 April at 14:00 at the Basilica del Santo there will be a new appointment with Fior D’ Arancio Colli Euganei DOCG and Padua Urbs Picta.
A Journey into the Beauty of Padua Urbs Picta, UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2021, with a look at the Feminine: a guided tour of the Basilica del Santo to discover the 14th-century pictorial cycle, followed by an unprecedented tasting with heady perfumes and enveloping flavours to discover Fior d’Arancio Colli Euganei DOCG in 3 different expressions presented by their producers c/o NerodiSeppia Bistrot d’Autore in Padua.
Accompanied by an authorised guide, we will discover the 14th-century painting cycle in the Basilica del Santo. The Basilica del Santo is the most important religious centre in the city of Padua. The frescoes of the Padua Urbs Picta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are many, important and meritorious. Here Giotto was active in the Chapel of the Madonna Mora, the Chapel of St Catherine and the Chapter House.
In the Chapel of St. James, commissioned by the Lupi di Soragna family, there is a 14th-century fresco cycle of considerable merit by Altichiero di Zevio and Jacopo Avanzi.
The chapel of the Beato Luca Belludi, commissioned by the Conti family to Giusto de Menabuoi, opens in the nave to the left of the Basilica.
Many are the women we will meet in the frescoes, true portraits of the femininity of the time, expressions of the dominant social class recognisable by their rich dresses. We will hear the stories of Queen Lupa, ancestress of the Lupi di Soragna family, and meet the wife of Bonifacio, politician and condottiere in the service of the Da Carrara family: Caterina di Franzesi di Staggia.
This will be followed by a tasting of Fior d’Arancio Colli Euganei DOCG wines in three different expressions, each accompanied by a harmonious gastronomic pairing by the chefs of the NerodiSeppia Bistrot d’Autore in Padua.
Run by sisters Eugenia and Patrizia in this place, dishes that have brought prestige to Veneto cuisine meet art in an explosion of colours, new textures and combinations that enchant and amaze for their refined essentiality. Their combination of cuisine and art becomes a winning combination.
