The Sunday matinee has been, since last year, one of the specialties of the Padova Jazz Festival. And to complete the second week of the event comes, on Sunday 10 November, the live performance of drummer Enrico Morello, who will perform at 11.30 am in the Sala Rossini of the Caffè Pedrocchi, in a quartet with Daniele Tittarelli (alto sax), Francesco Lento ( trumpet) and Matteo Bortone (double bass).
Cyclic Signs (Auand, 2021) was Enrico Morello’s recording debut: a late debut as a leader given that Morello had already been a reference choice for high-profile national jazz formations for many years. Being a drummer, it is not surprising that the music of this quartet of his starts from the rhythmic foundations, understood not as a simple metric scansion but as a series of multifaceted and unexpected paths.
Born in Rome in 1988, he began studying the drums at the age of 9. During his training he explored the technique with some of the most illustrious exponents of the instrument: Greg Hutchinson, Eric Harland, Adam Nussbaum, Ferenc Nemeth, Ben Perowsky, Jeff Ballard, Billy Drummond, Billy Hart. In 2014 he joined Enrico Rava’s quartet, which then transformed into the Special Edition in 2019, created to celebrate Rava’s eightieth birthday. He also took part in the formations of Maurizio Giammarco (Halfplugged Syncotribe), Alessandro Lanzoni, Paolo Fresu (Around Tuk), Francesco Diodati (Yellow Squeeds), Francesco Ponticelli, Barbara Casini…
