MAURO OTTOLINI TRIO “On that street corner”
On Saturday 9 November the Padova Jazz Festival returns for the second time to the spaces of the University of Padua. Mauro Ottolini will perform in concert at the Department of Psychology (at 9 pm). Cult trombonist, on this occasion also playing bass trumpet, shells and voice, Ottolini will be in a trio with Thomas Sinigaglia (accordion, looper) and Marco Bianchi (classical guitar).
Fruit of the inexhaustible creativity of Mauro Ottolini, the trio with Thomas Sinigaglia and Marco Bianchi demonstrates the strong personality and inventiveness of this soloist at the top of national jazz. “In that corner of the street” mixes Italian tradition, blues, gypsy, exotic rumba, melodies and songs by Ellington, Fats Waller, Amália Rodrigues, Tom Waits, Don Cherry, Nino Rota and original compositions by Ottolini himself.
An eclecticism capable of triggering intense and ever-changing emotions, of spurring imaginative improvisations, of bringing together sound research and love for traditions, of using ancestral and popular instruments such as shells, brass, accordion and guitar to obtain an experimental synthesis. In a melodic and engaging adventure, the trio retraces almost a century of jazz history.
