On Thursday 12 September, at 9pm at the stage area of the Giardini dell’Arena in Padua, ‘Taro & Capa‘ will be staged, a theatrical monologue that tells the extraordinary story behind the name Robert Capa, one of the greatest war photojournalists in history.
Although the name Robert Capa is world-famous, few people know that in the beginning it was a pseudonym shared by two people: Endre Friedmann and Gerda Taro. Together, they formed one of the most famous and tragic pairs in war photography.
Gerda Taro, the first female photojournalist to die on the battlefield, distinguished herself by her courage and determination. Her tragic and untimely death during the Spanish Civil War deeply marked Friedmann, who continued to work under the pseudonym Capa, delivering to the world some of the most famous wartime shots ever taken.
‘Taro & Capa’ brings this story of love, courage and photography to the stage through an emotionally charged monologue that reflects not only their artistic talent but also the tensions and hopes of an era in turmoil.
The monologue, directed and performed by Vittorio Attene, was conceived and written by Riccardo Cecconi, with the production of Recitando – Vittorio Attene Acting Studio.
