Journey to Jewish Padua:

the museum, the ancient Ghetto and its synagogues

Guided tour with dance show by Associazione Girasole danza Sunday 6 April 2025 – 3:30 pm In the heart of Padua, a few steps from the Palazzo della Ragione, lies the ancient Jewish Ghetto, a place that preserves centuries of history, memory and spirituality.

Created in 1603 by decree of the Republic of Venice, the Ghetto has been the hub of life for the Jewish community for centuries, amidst segregation, resilience and extraordinary cultural contributions.

Walking through its narrow streets, where the houses grow in height, you can breathe in the past and admire the timeless elegance of this neighborhood.

In the center of the Ghetto is the Museum of Jewish Padua, housed in a former 16th-century synagogue restored after a fire in 1943. Among ancient arches, women’s galleries and objects of worship, the Museum tells the story of the rich cultural and religious tradition of the Jewish community of Padua, intertwined with the history of the city.

A few steps away, the Italian Rite Synagogue, dating back to 1548, is the only one still active in Padua.

With its baroque furnishings, neoclassical stuccoes and the Aron HaKodesh which houses seven Torah scrolls, it is a place of extraordinary beauty and spirituality, a living symbol of the Jewish faith.

The experience will be enriched by a Dance Show by the Girasole Danza Association.

Every alley, building and place of worship in the Jewish Ghetto tells stories of resilience, tradition and faith, offering a unique key to understanding the evolution of the city.
