The second of the two previews awaiting the upcoming Padova Jazz Festival (the twenty-sixth edition of which will begin on October 31st) will be a concert that you will come across by surprise while walking through the streets of the historic center of Padua. On Saturday 19 October starting from 4.30 pm the MagicaBoola Brass Band will perform a traveling live show that will take its steps from Piazza delle Erbe: a full-tempo parade that will provide the city with a moving soundtrack.
The MagicaBoola Brass Band, born in 2008 in Val di Cornia (Livorno), is a modern street band made up of wind instruments and rhythm: trumpets, trombones, saxophones, sousaphone, bass drum, snare drum and percussion. MagicaBoola continues the stylistic path from the first New Orleans formations, proposing contaminations of jazz, blues, ethnic, hip hop, funk, popular song: music to listen to and see but above all to dance to.
Boom, his 2008 debut album, was followed by the albums Attaccati alla luna (2011) and The Dark Side of the Street (2016), created with the involvement of guests such as Nick The Nightfly, Ellade Bandini, Mauro Ottolini & Sousaphonix, Stefano “Cocco” Cantini, Mauro Grossi. Multicolor Dance arrived in 2019, published on the occasion of MagicaBoola’s participation in Jovanotti’s «Jova Beach Party» tour. The most recent Canzoni in key di brass (2023) is dedicated to Italian songs revisited in a band guise.
MagicaBoola deals with wide-ranging popular music, also bringing to light the strong link with the tradition of Italian folk bands. In addition to original compositions, the repertoire includes songs by Ray Charles, Bob Marley, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Joe Zawinul, all performed with lots of choreography.
