On Saturday, 9 November ’24, at 5 p.m., at the Sala dei Giganti at the Liviano in Padua, inaugural concert of the new Integrale dei Quartetti per archi di Beethoven, proposed by the Amici della Musica di Padova.
Seven appointments, from November ’24 to February ’25, in which Beethoven’s sixteen string quartets, plus the Great Fugue, will be proposed. For their great innovative capacity, dramatic force and versatility, they represent one of the most important and famous works in the entire history of music.
The immersion into this Beethovenian universe was entrusted to the Quartetto di Venezia (Andrea Vio, violin; Alberto Battiston, violin; Mario Paladin, viola; Angelo Zanin, cello), which celebrated over 40 years of musical life in 2021 and is distinguished for being one of the longest-lived Italian string quartets. The quartet is known for the balance, analytical rigour, personality and expressive force that characterise its performances, as well as for its extremely rich and varied repertoire and extensive record production. For its performance of G.F. Malipiero’s quartets, the ensemble received the ‘Premio della Critica Italiana’ as the best chamber music recording, and since 2017 it has been ‘Quartetto in Residenza’ at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice. In his long career, he has tackled the complete performance of Beethoven’s quartets several times, undoubtedly one of the richest and most complex works a quartet can tackle.
In the first concert three quartets will be performed, the Quartet Op.18 No.6, the Quartet Op.59 No.1 ‘Rasumovsky’ and the Quartet Op.135. Each quartet belongs to one of the three different moments that characterise Beethoven’s quartet production, and thus already from the first date it will be possible to grasp the composer’s artistic journey.
