Thursday 7 November at the Cinema Rex in Padua (Via S. Osvaldo, 2) sees the start of a series of fixed weekly appointments that will accompany us throughout the winter season and for a large part of the spring, in which the viewing of the film will be followed by an open and informal debate to discuss the work and the themes it deals with. 22 titles (plus one…) over two seasons between November and April, linked by the fil rouge of Beauty in its most diverse declinations.
Thursday evening will then be an opportunity to present the project and the calendar of screenings, the technical details, and questions regarding prices and subscriptions, which we have preferred to keep ‘popular’ in order to bring the public closer to an initiative that we at the Rex cinema hold dear. Even more advantageous will be the options for members of the C-Rex club, which was set up together with the Monosalotto and which will be the first step in creating a community of cinephiles and from which many other initiatives, which will be presented soon, will take off. For the occasion, the film screening will be introduced by a moment of conviviality with a surprise offered by the cinema before getting lost in the magic of the film in the dark of the theatre. Admission is free for members of the club (membership card will be available on site) and only 3 euros for all others.
For the opening night, which will be followed by a break before resuming on Thursday 21 November, it was decided to bring back one of the great classics of Italian comedy, I SOLITI IGNOTI (1958) by Mario Monicelli, in which a great cast of those who were or would become some of the greatest actors and actresses of 20th century Italian cinema (Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman, Claudia Cardinale, to name but a few) receives an ideal baton from an iconic Totò despite playing a secondary role, that of a ‘retired’ burglar who teaches the tricks of the trade to the improvised gang. Beyond its pure historical value, I Soliti Ignoti is still a highly entertaining film, proving that quality comedy does not expire, even almost 70 years after its release. An unmissable appointment that will be the forerunner of the most exciting cinephile journey in the months to come!
Tickets for the evening can also be purchased online (single ticket €3) at www.cinemarex.it or at the Rex Box Office online at https://ticket.cinebot.it/rex/.
