16th edition of Veneto Spettacoli di Mistero, Veneto’s largest Mystery Festival: let yourself be enchanted by the myths, legends and mysteries of our region’s folklore with shows, music, theatre and much more.
Sunday 17 November in Padua with La terra accoglie a guided itinerary to discover Padua’s ancient Jewish cemeteries. The oldest, in use since the beginning of the 16th century, is the one in Via Wiel, where some burials still attract visitors from all over the world. Not far away is the cemetery in via Campagnola, used by the Jewish community in the 8th century, and the one in via Canal, dating back to the early 19th century, where tombstones appear for the first time not only in Hebrew but also in Italian. Visiting the ancient cemeteries we will discover the traditions and customs linked to mourning in Judaism and learn about the stories of illustrious Jews, doctors, master rabbis, and political figures who made a fundamental contribution to the history of Padua.
