The Cristofori Festival, promoted by the Bartolomeo Cristofori Association, returns from 18 to 30 September 2025.
Now in its eighth edition, the Bartolomeo Cristofori International Piano Festival is a tribute to the inventor of the piano, Bartolomeo Cristofori, who was born in Padua in 1655 and invited to the court of the Medici to bring his revolutionary invention to life: the piano.
This edition of the Festival will be dedicated to revolutions: ‘Revolution!’, a journey through the great historical and musical revolutions that have forever changed the course of history. The concerts of the Festival’s Pianist in Residence, Ukrainian Vadym Kholodenko, First Prize winner at the 2013 Van Cliburn Competition, will be dedicated to three revolutionary figures.
The Padua audience will be able to hear him on 18 September at the Teatro Verdi in Beethoven’s Fifth Concerto, ‘The Emperor’, with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto conducted by the young German conductor Christian Blex; in a recital dedicated to Frederic Rzewski’s Variations on the Chilean protest song ‘El Pueblo Unido’ on 20 September at the Teatro Torresino and in one of the revolutionary masterpieces of music history, Mozart’s Requiem, in Klindworth’s titanic transcription for solo piano, performed by Kholodenko on 26 September at the Scuola della Carità on an original 19th-century piano.
Kholodenko will also be the protagonist of the festival’s first masterclass, organised in collaboration with the Conservatory of Rovigo.
The detailed programme, including previews, is available on the Bartolomeo Cristofori International Piano Festival website.
