Tartini Explorations – From the music of the soul to the first violin in Europe

SEP 6, 2025
Other

Starting on 6 September, the four Saturdays of the month will be marked by the second part of Esplorazioni Tartiniane 2025, cultural walks in the centre of Padua following in the footsteps of the legacy left by the great musician Giuseppe Tartini, concluding each time with a concert at the Church of Santa Caterina. Each event will feature different locations and themes, beginning on 6 September with a musical excursion in the cloisters of the Basilica del Santo (meeting at 3.15 pm at the Chiostro della Magnolia). During the exploration, the centuries-old history of the Accademia Musicale del Santo, where Tartini worked for over forty years in the 18th century, will be illustrated. In addition to the Antonian Cloisters, the Church of the Servi will also be visited, and the tour will end at the Church of Santa Caterina, where the concert by violinist Ernesto Campagnaro will begin at 5.30 p.m. After graduating with honours from the Conservatory of Castelfranco, Campagnaro continued his studies at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland and furthered his study of early music. He collaborates with various orchestras and ensembles, including Interpreti Veneziani, Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (OSI).

The programme includes three sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini and, in its world premiere as a tribute to Tartini, a contemporary composition by Pietro Ferreri, a student in the Composition Class of Maestro Giovanni Bonato at the Pollini Conservatory in Padua. The concert will be introduced by musicologist Angela Forin, who will talk about Tartini as a ‘sound scientist’ and how he was able to bring together technique and musical poetry. The premiere of the piece L’ombra (The Shadow) will be introduced, a metaphor for the evanescent nature of music, memories and the emotions it arouses.
