It is said that the last memory to remain anchored in the mind, when everything else fades, are the songs.
The melodies we sang as children, the lullabies our mothers sang to put us to sleep, the music we danced to while sometimes disobeying our parents. More than a hundred voices of elderly gentlemen and ladies expose themselves, singing and telling us what they remember, of war, of love, of mother, of where we danced, of where we ran away, of how much everything has changed today, of how perhaps some things remain unchanged.
BumBumFritz has recorded these memories, transcribed them, processed them, and intertwined them with electronic music. We Always Danced is not just an archive of important memories, collected on audiocassettes, listened to and danced to during the performance, but is also about how these relate to the contemporary and how they still concern us.
How have we changed in the last hundred years? What are we still capable of remembering?
