Sandra Marconato. Oracles

1 MAY - 25 OCT 2026
Other

On the tenth anniversary of the death of the artist Sandra Marconato (Padua, 1927-2016), one of the most significant figures in Italian art of the second half of the twentieth century, the Civic Museums of Padua, with the contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo Foundation, dedicate an installation of tapestries at the Archaeological Museum of the Eremitani Museums.

The current installation fits into a dialogue between contemporary art and ancient artifacts already experimented with by the museum. In this case, some tapestries created in the 1970s – among the most representative of her production – are placed over three Roman mosaics. The works, suspended, are arranged without ever coming into direct contact with the ancient floors, creating a visual comparison based on distance and layering.

The title of the exhibition references the oracle of Delphi and alludes to a gradual process: something that takes shape slowly, like a movement rising from below. An image reflected in the tapestries, suspended above the mosaics, as if they were emerging from an ancient floor.
