Two choreographic creations signed by Michele Merola compose the Bolero Soirée of the MM Contemporary Dance Company. In Vivaldi Umane Passioni, Merola explores the universe of human emotions through the notes of Antonio Vivaldi. His choreographies, inspired by the poetic visions of Marc Chagall, shape an emotional journey made of grace, intensity, and lightness. “It is a chess game in which music and bodies chase each other, confront each other, overlap, in a representational dynamic that the combination makes even more intense” (Ermanno Romanelli). With Bolero, the choreographer engages with the famous composition by Maurice Ravel to investigate human relationships, particularly those of couples. On this same music, composer Stefano Corrias intervenes, creating a score freely inspired by the original version of Ravel’s piece. Through a pulsating and sensual dance, Merola narrates the tensions, desires, distances, and emotional short circuits that inhabit every relationship. As in music, the choreography also progresses via crescendos, until it explodes into a vortex of passion and disenchantment.
