Don’t run! Cover yourself, don’t sweat! It’s not proper! They kept telling Alfonsina that, but nothing, with her stubborn head she wouldn’t listen and did what she wanted. And she did it even though she was born in the Emilia lowlands at the end of the 19th century, in a family rich only in children. Still a child, suddenly, she fell in love, rather she was struck by a word that in her mind meant dreams and adventures: that magic word was “bicycle.” But she wasn’t satisfied with just going for a few rides, NO. In a historical period when women were the angels of the hearth, she wanted to go fast on her bike, to go far, she wanted to compete, to become a racer. The greatest desire of Alfonsina Strada Morini was to measure herself against men: and she succeeded in the Giro d’Italia 100 years ago. We will tell you how it went.
