Humanity’s Greatest Tragedy

A show that allows the audience to choose humanity’s greatest tragedy. It begins with the loss of a cell phone and continues with a betrayed love, the birth of Facebook, a child falling into a well, the extinction of elephants, an epidemic, a genocide, and a comparison between a recent massacre and a distant one, between a recent one and a past one.

A show that spectacularizes the spectacularization of suffering and asks: how can we, now, represent a tragedy on stage? Debord said that the spectacle “is the historical moment that contains us.” Outside the theater, “the spectacle constitutes the present model of socially dominant life.”

How can we, together, inside a theater, look at ourselves from the outside? Observe the mechanisms that implicitly make us choose each day which pain to address with our indignation? The device revolves around two themes: the media spectacularization of pain and the representability of tragedy. How does my perception of pain change depending on the expressive means used to represent it? Which tragedy represents the wall against which this perverse game crashes?
