STRAIGHT TO THE HEART – Madame Bovary
January 25, 7:00 PM – Suspended Cargoes Cultural Circle – Vicolo del Portello, 12 – Padua
“The human heart can only expand when it is cut open. – Flaubert”
Madame Bovary returns to the stage. Encountering Flaubert’s writing was a defining moment in the Circle’s journey, and ten years after our first encounter, Emma Bovary continues to stare us in the face because it is at the center of a novel founded “on nothing,” as the author himself said, because our escapes are still impossible and our desires still unattainable. Today, as ten years ago, today, as 170 years ago.
Madame Bovary was the great “major” novel to be “minorized,” as Deleuze/Carmelo Bene put it. The solid “finite” to be worked on and reworked to reach, in an ideal countermovement, an unstable “unfinished.”
