Second consecutive evening for the Padova Jazz Festival at the Teatro Verdi. Here, on Friday, November 21 (at 9 PM), with the concert of saxophonist Camilla George, the listening continues with the great representatives of black music. The artist of Nigerian origin but now a well-established star of that London scene which is redefining jazz language will perform in a quartet alongside Renato Paris (piano, keyboards, voice), Jihad Darwish (bass), and Rod Youngs (drums).
In the afternoon, at Nuova Sant’Agnese/Fondazione Peruzzo (6:30 PM), the Pericopes will perform. The trio is a true extrasensory experience, thanks to the imaginative stylistic fusions conceived by Emi Vernizzi (tenor sax, electronics), Claudio Vignali (piano, electric piano, electronics), and Ruben Bellavia (drums).
As both a saxophonist and composer, Camilla George is a visionary innovator: her music is a hypnotizing blend of afrofuturism, hip hop, and jazz, a vehicle for culturally engaged messages. Camilla firmly, determinedly, and clearly showcases her Nigerian identity, using music to reflect on African history, culture, and slavery.
Crossover jazz of the most creative and solid craftsmanship: the Pericopes mix post-rock, prog, and electronic sounds, carefully working on writing while also freely indulging in improvisation, in which the jazz origins of this trio’s members are revealed. Active for over fifteen years, with a rich discography (eight albums) and full of ideas, the Pericopes boast a significant international career, with dozens of tours that have taken them from the USA to China.
The Padova Jazz Festival is organized by the Cultural Association Miles, presided over by Gabriella Piccolo Casiraghi, in collaboration with the municipal administration and regional administration, with contributions from Bosco Costruzioni and Volksbank and with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
