Another musical highlight for the 2025 edition of the Padova Jazz Festival: on Saturday, November 22 at 9 PM, the Teatro Verdi will host a concert by Cécile McLorin Salvant. The singer, who has drawn attention to herself since a young age for her bold vocality, arrives in Padua after a continuous and unstoppable success that has brought her to the top of the international jazz scene, with a set that reflects her great artistic maturity, accompanied by Mathis Picard on piano, Yasushi Nakamura on double bass, and Kyle Poole on drums.
Cécile McLorin Salvant is one of the shining stars of the new generation of jazz singing heroines deeply rooted in the African American tradition. In just a few years, she has fully confirmed the prediction made at the time of her debut by Stephen Holden of the New York Times: “If anyone can carry on the legacy of the three greats – Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan – it is this young virtuoso.”
In her personal vision of African American music, jazz, vaudeville, blues, and folk are closely interconnected. The themes addressed in the songs, often drawn from forgotten repertoires, are ‘strong’ and allow her voice to showcase all its interpretive intensity, supported by a wide range whose perfect control reveals her classical operatic training.
The Padova Jazz Festival is organized by the Miles Cultural Association presided over by Gabriella Piccolo Casiraghi, in collaboration with the municipal administration and the regional administration, with the contribution of Bosco Costruzioni and Volksbank, and with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
