From 13 September to 26 October 2025, the Galleria Civica Cavour will host the retrospective exhibition “Pensare con le mani” (Thinking with your hands), dedicated to Danilo Andreose (Agna, 1922 – Bassano del Grappa, 1987), a master of 20th-century Venetian sculpture and a central figure in the Italian artistic and cultural scene of the second half of the century. Curated by Barbara Codogno, the exhibition traces over fifty years of plastic research through some thirty works, in a journey that reveals the artist’s technical skill, humanistic depth and constant tension between the weight of the material and the lightness of the sculptural gesture.
The exhibition, organised with the support of the Municipality of Padua, opens with large marble and stone sculptures that showcase the artist’s monumental strength and compositional lightness. This is followed by a section dedicated to bronzes, in which metal becomes a vibrant material, capable of suggesting movement and harmony. The central part of the exhibition features terracotta and plaster works: from narrative panels to sketches and small figures, evidence of Andreose’s design phase and versatility. The exhibition concludes with a section dedicated to ceramics and small bronzes, works of small format but great formal refinement, in which sculpture becomes intimate and almost playful.
The title “Pensare con le mani” (Thinking with your hands) perfectly sums up the artist’s philosophy: each work is born from physical contact with the material and the ability to transform it into visible thought. The exhibition is an invitation to discover a master who has been able to blend the Venetian sculptural tradition with his own personal mystical language.
