Discovering Palazzo Santo Stefano and its underground chambers

OCT 12, 2025
Other

Historical seat of the Province of Padua and the Prefecture, Palazzo Santo Stefano is a treasure trove of beauty and memories still little known to citizens and tourists.

Its origins date back to the year 1000 as a female Benedictine monastery, but there have been many transformations that have taken place, especially after the Napoleonic suppressions of 1810.

Since 1868, the building has housed the Provincial Administration, the Prefecture, and the residence of the Prefect. It is a place to discover, with the artistic and architectural beauties enclosed in its galleries, in the grand staircase at the entrance, in the beautiful and completely frescoed council chamber, and with the narrow undergrounds that served, during wartime, as air raid and gas shelters.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, three distinct visiting shifts are scheduled at 09:30, 10:30, and 11:30, lasting (approximately) 1 hour and 10 minutes.

A contribution of € 6 is required per participant (€ 5 for members), and for children up to 12 years of age, € 3.
