On Thursday, November 20, at 6:30 PM, Nuova Sant’Agnese/Fondazione Peruzzo will host a concert with Carioca tones by the duo formed by singer Mafalda Minnozzi and guitarist Paul Ricci.
Internationally renowned Italian artist, Mafalda Minnozzi boasts a career spanning nearly thirty years, spent mainly in the Americas and marked by collaborations… Her deep engagement with Brazilian music has allowed her to absorb its spirit so thoroughly that she can then integrate it into other musical forms: French chanson, Neapolitan songs, Italian singer-songwriter music, and jazz.
“Meu Rio” is a sincere tribute to the city of Rio de Janeiro, the gateway to the richness of Brazilian musical culture. Mafalda interprets Jobim, Menescal, and Chico Buarque de Hollanda alongside other international composers influenced by Carioca music, from Morricone to Jacques Brel and Harold Arlen. This repertoire is also the focus of her new album Riofonic.
To bring the atmospheres of “Meu Rio” to life, Minnozzi will be accompanied by New York guitarist and producer Paul Ricci, her long-time collaborator. Ricci has performed with Roy Haynes, Kenny Barron, Gary Burton, Sonny Fortune, Bebel Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Mino Cinelu, Randy Brecker, and the great Harry Belafonte.
The Padova Jazz Festival is organized by the Cultural Association Miles, presided over by Gabriella Piccolo Casiraghi, in collaboration with the Municipal Administration and the Regional Administration, with contributions from Bosco Costruzioni and Volksbank, and with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
