The appointments dedicated to the piano continue with the concert of the young talent Elia Cecino on November 24 at 8:15 PM at the C. Pollini Auditorium in Padua.
The concert program, according to the pianist’s vision, takes us on a musical journey that challenges the formal and dramatic conventions of the piano repertoire of the nineteenth century and gazes at the early compositions of the twentieth century. Beethoven’s Sonata op. 54, characterized by only two movements, is an example of the composer’s creative freedom. Janáček’s Sonata “From the Street” is a work of heartbreaking intensity, a lament of protest and pain, written in memory of a worker killed during a demonstration in Brno on October 1, 1905. Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Schumann, written following Schumann’s attempted suicide, are imbued with a reflective and nostalgic atmosphere. The program concludes with Skrjabin’s Sonata No. 3 op. 23, “States of Mind”, a work steeped in profound mysticism and symbolism.
Elia Cecino, from Treviso, born in 2001, won the Venice Award in 2019 and, a few years later, became the first Italian to win the Iturbi International Piano Competition 2023 in Valencia, also receiving a special prize for the best interpretation of a Beethoven concerto and for the best interpretation of Chopin’s music. His recitals in 2021 and 2023 at the Pauline Chapel of the Quirinale Palace were broadcast live on Rai Radio 3. In addition to performing in recitals in the most important concert halls, he is also engaged in an intense chamber music activity. He has collaborated, among others, with Mario Brunello on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.
The concert is organized in collaboration with CIDIM ETS and is part of the A Piano for Padua cycle dedicated to piano excellence, supported by the CARIPARO Foundation. Open rehearsal at 10:30 AM.
