The Beauty that Educates. Music, Listening, and Rebirth in Places of Punishment

The fourth edition of the exhibition “The Signs of the Soul” was inaugurated on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the former stables of Palazzo Moroni in the Municipality of Padua, remaining open to the public until Sunday, June 14.

The exhibition is dedicated to the suggestions of sound narrated through colors, lights, and shadows that become a metaphor for our existence: a place of rebirth where, at times, we lose ourselves only to find ourselves again.

The initiative, promoted by the Culture Sector of the Municipality of Padua in collaboration with the Department of Penitentiary Administration of the Triveneto and with the UNESCO Club, supported by the Rotary Club Verona, the Inner Wheel Club of Padua, Verona, and Abano Terme-Montegrotto Terme, brings together the works of the inmates involved in the project “The Sounds of Beauty”, a workshop devised by M° Nicola Guerini that enhances the perceptual journey through the listening of music.

The exhibition, dedicated to the world of sound and its chromatic perceptions, presents over 90 works created within the workshop “The Sounds of Beauty,” made with mixed techniques and collected from penitentiary institutions in Vicenza, Trento, Verona, and Trieste. During the workshop, male and female inmates produced drawings born from the immersive listening of famous symphonic pieces: a large mosaic born from the immortal notes of Ravel, Puccini, Grieg, Morricone, and many others, whose tiles represent emotional maps of an individual and authentic “feeling.”

Nicola Guerini, a conductor and active promoter, has for years encouraged listening to music as an immersive experience in penitentiary institutions, stimulating in inmates not only the emotional and instinctive dimension but also an introspective journey based on understanding and internalization of the rehabilitative path experienced in prison.”

“The Sounds of Beauty” goes beyond the dimension of a simple workshop: it is concrete proof of how art can emerge even in the most difficult contexts, finding in music a tool for expression and redemption – says Tindara Inferrera –. These drawings give voice to interiority and sensitivity that are often invisible.
