Ten years after her passing (April 7, 2016), the Friends of Music of Padua, with the Circolo Culturale Bellunese, along with Erich Hoeprich and the London Haydn Quartet, dedicate this concert to the memory of our beloved Liesbeth. Her passionate and intelligent work, starting in the 1980s, has brought major Dutch artists, from ancient to modern and contemporary music, to Italy. These include Gustav Leonhardt, Frans Brüggen, Anner Bylsma, Bob van Asperen, the Orchestra del 700, the Esterházy Quartet (with Jaap Schroeder), Elly Ameling, Reinbert De Leeuw with the Schönberg Ensemble, the Rondom Quartet (with Vera Beths), and many, many other artists whom the Padua audience, among the first in Italy, was able to appreciate.
Precisely with his passion for wind instruments in mind, the Friends of Music have chosen Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet, K. 581, composed in 1789 for Anton Stadler. Five years earlier, the Quartet, K. 428, one of six quartets dedicated to Joseph Haydn, is also included in the program with the Quartet, Op. 33, No. 5, from 1781. A new and curious piece for us is the string quartet version (K. Ahn. A. 60) that Mozart composed in 1787 of the “Phantasia supra Ut, re, mi, fa, sol, la” by Johann Jakob Froberger (1616-1667).
Open rehearsal at 10:30 a.m., Pollini Auditorium.
