From the birth of photography to the new forms of contemporary image.
A photography course designed not only to learn how to take photographs but to understand how photography has become, over time, an independent artistic language. Through the analysis of 30 great photographers, the course retraces the fundamental stages of a history made up of inventions, insights, breakthroughs, and new expressive possibilities.
Each author will be studied as a bearer of a specific innovation, technique, or language: from portraiture to documentary photography, from research on light to composition, from street photography to experimentation, from constructed images to manipulation, and up to the most recent forms of contamination between photography, art, and new technologies.
So, it’s not just a simple chronology but a journey through 30 different ways of looking at and interpreting reality. Each meeting will highlight what each photographer has introduced or changed in photographic language.
A workshop with a practical field approach will follow, culminating in a final exhibition of the shots with a group show at the gallery.
The course, taught by Stefano Mariani, lecturer in Audiovisual and Multimedia Language, is divided into 4 meetings during the month of october 2026 for a total of 16 hours and will be held at the GALLERY IN Padua at via Cesare Battisti 94.
