Third appointment of the Integrale dei Quartetti per Archi di Beethoven on Saturday 14 December ’24, at 5 p.m., at the Sala dei Giganti at the Liviano in Padua, an event organised by the Amici della Musica di Padova, which will end on 2 February 2025. All seven concerts have been entrusted to the famous Quartetto di Venezia, a historic ensemble that is among the most prestigious in Italy and Europe, and which, for over forty years on the scene, is also one of the longest-lived quartets. The four musicians have received many awards, including the prestigious ‘Premio della Critica Italiana’. The ensemble is praised for its analytical rigour, passion and balanced performances, and since 2017 has been ‘Quartet in Residence’ at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice. An ideal ensemble, therefore, to which to entrust the most sophisticated chamber music genre, to which Beethoven’s string quartets belong. The musicians’ choice was to present quartets belonging to different periods of composition in each concert.
Thus, on Saturday 14 December, the Quartet Op. 74 ‘The Harps’, written in 1810 and so called because of the arpeggios that characterise the first movement, the Quartet Op. 18 No. 4, composed in 1801 and famous for the dramatic tension that runs through it, and the Quartet Op. 130, written in the years 1825-26, are part of the last group of quartets written by Beethoven, in which the composer seems to experiment with new, unexplored expressive possibilities. This concert, like all those in the series, revolves around Beethoven’s compositional universe and offers the opportunity to enjoy one of the highest musical genres of all time.
The series will resume after the Christmas break, starting on Sunday 12 January, and the concerts will be held on Sunday mornings, at 11 a.m., again in the Sala dei Giganti.
