BeccoGiallo turns 20: an exhibition in Padua to celebrate civil commitment comics publishing.
BeccoGiallo, a Padua-based publishing house specialising in civil commitment comics and illustrated books for children, celebrates 20 years of activity. Founded in 2005 by Guido Ostanel and Federico Zaghis in the heart of Padua, BeccoGiallo was awarded Best Editorial Initiative at Lucca Comics for its commitment to the dissemination of themes and figures fundamental to Italy’s collective memory.
To celebrate this important milestone, from 19 June to 27 July the Centro Culturale Altinate San Gaetano (ballatoi) is hosting an unprecedented exhibition, which recounts BeccoGiallo’s publishing adventure through images.
Through the most iconic covers published in these 20 years, the exhibition visually retraces the history of one of the most innovative publishing realities on the national scene. From Peppino Impastato to Ilaria Alpi, from Pasolini to judges Falcone and Borsellino, from Primo Levi to Mario Rigoni Stern, from Alda Merini to Maria Montessori, from Basaglia to Perlasca: BeccoGiallo’s works give voice to crucial protagonists and events in Italian history.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the places of memory: Ustica, Piazza Fontana, Vajont, Porto Marghera, the Bologna massacre, the Borghese coup, up to the investigations into the Unabomber and Emanuela Orlandi cases. An opportunity to discover, through the language of graphic journalism, how a comic book is born and to reflect – without rhetoric – on what we must not forget.
