“Ezzelino III da Romano in art” – Picture and photography exhibition
Cavour Civic Gallery, Piazza Cavour – Padua
The painting and photography exhibition “Ezzelino III da Romano in Arte” opens on Saturday, July 26th at the Galleria Civica Cavour in Padua. Curated by Andrea Malaman, the exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Padua, as part of the “Palio in tour 2025” project.
For nearly fifty years, the Palio Association of the 10 Municipalities of Montagnana has organized the historic Palio event, awarding the winners of the contests not only the usual prizes, but also works by artists of local, national, and international fame. These works remain the property of the organizing Association and, over the decades, have enriched the Palio Art Gallery, a little-known and undervalued art gallery, at least until 2023. Therefore, in 2024, Andrea Malaman created the “Palio in Tour” initiative, in places rich in history, beauty, and culture. After visiting Este, San Giovanni in Croce, Romano d’Ezzelino, Soncino, and Monteforte d’Alpone, the tour stops in Padua. A selection of previously unseen works, chosen for the occasion, will be on display in the central Galleria Civica Cavour.
The exhibition opens with the first banner created for the Palio by Tono Zancanaro in 1978, and continues with paintings spanning the last two decades of the last century, created by renowned artists: Delmo Veronese, Piero Annigoni, Aligi Sassu, to name a few. The first two decades of the 21st century are represented by works by Vico Calabrò, Giampietro Cudin, and Vania Eletra Tam; while the final five years of the Palio are represented by works by Raffaele Minotto, Alessandro Rinaldi, and Luca Gastaldo. The exhibition is enriched by photographs taken during the days of the Palio by photographers from the Circolo Euganeo of Este.
