APR 30, 2026
Other

Padovanità invites you to visit a pleasant and valuable place for the historical, artistic, and religious tradition of our city. We will enter the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine and its wonderful Scoletta.
We will have the opportunity to be amazed by our guide’s explanations through a true journey through time that we will experience as we go through the visit. The Basilica of Santa Maria del Carmine is popularly called i Carmini, named after the monastic order that settled in Padua around the end of the 13th century. The first Church (the oldest on record) was built in 1212, along with a convent of nuns that was later rebuilt by the Carmelite friars before 1295. The reconstruction of the Church began in 1335, but the consecration of the new Church dedicated to Santa Maria del Carmine took place in 1446.
Next to the Basilica, we find the Scoletta del Carmine, where important examples of Renaissance art are preserved. Built in the 14th century as the seat of the homonymous confraternity, it is decorated with an important cycle of 16th-century frescoes depicting stories of Christ and Mary. The frescoes are the work of Girolamo Tessari, known as dal Santo, Giulio Campagnola, Domenico Campagnola, Stefano dall’Arzere, and collaborators.
