Not only Unesco! In addition to the artistic awards, Padua has also received awards for its role in sports. The city is preparing to celebrate 2023 with the title of European City of Sport.
“Great news for Padua”, said the Mayor with satisfaction, “We have been awarded the title of European City of Sport 2023. An opportunity to invest even more in sport and in our excellence. Sport is health, sociality and friendship.”
Among the various sports that make Padua worthy of this title, we cannot fail to leave first place to rugby. Petrarca Rugby is the historic team, founded in 1947, and today the third Italian club in terms of number of championships won (thirteen, the last in 2017/2018), after Amatori Milano and Benetton Treviso.
It is impossible not to mention cycling in the province of Padua, a territory that seems to have been created specifically to be explored on two wheels.
A rich network of cycle paths and hiking trails, combined with the extraordinary variety of the landscape, make Padua an ideal area for cycling to discover cities of art, hills, waterways, medieval castles, ancient villas, countryside villages and thermal springs.
The area of Padua also stands out for its golfing centres, immersed in the greenery of the Venetian nature.
Golf della Montecchia, Golf Club Frassanelle and Terme di Galzignano Golf are the three golf courses in Padua, with a total of fifty-four holes.
Golf clubs are ideal locations and exclusive settings for events, business meetings and team building activities in an elegant yet informal atmosphere. Each facility can accommodate up to three hundred people.
There are also annual sporting events such as the Padua Marathon and the Pink Run.
The most noble human activities are really at home in Padua: among art, scientific research, spirituality and food and wine, sport also has its place of importance in the rich cultural landscape of Padua.
